Garrett Anthony Rice sails into the ice with “The Fisherman And The Sea”

Garrett Anthony Rice vuelve a la casa con una canción de las que se escuchan sin prisa. «The Fisherman And The Sea», el nuevo single del cantautor de Dublín, sale hoy, 16 de octubre, y se toma su tiempo: casi ocho minutos para contar una historia que no cabía en menos.

Garrett Anthony Rice is back with a song made for unhurried listening. «The Fisherman And The Sea», the Dublin singer-songwriter’s new single, is out today, October 16th, and it takes its time: almost eight minutes to tell a story that wouldn’t fit in fewer.

The song is built around Ernest Shackleton (1874-1922), the Irish explorer who spent his life trying to conquer Antarctica. He was stranded for months and years on ice floes, caught in life-threatening situations, and still went back to sea again and again. Garrett wonders what drove him to do it despite the danger, what each departure did to his wife and family, and what went through his mind as he waited for the ice to melt with his men’s lives in his hands.

The thought it leaves hanging is a heavy one: brave decisions are not always the right decisions.
