🇬🇧 English version
Missed Friday night at the bar? No excuses now: the full Rock n Beer Show #76 is on our YouTube channel, with chapters so you can jump straight to what you want. Over three hours of live radio, an interview that ran way over (in the best way) and a month of votes with plenty to talk about.
The interview: El Último Grito
September’s Song of the Month winners with “La Ruta de la Plata” joined us from their rehearsal room in Seville, and half an hour wasn’t enough. The name means “the last scream”: their last bullet, one final push to release their own songs after years on the road with cover and tribute bands. Juan Carlos’s lyrics had been waiting in a drawer for a long time; now they have 16 songs ready, and they’ll release one a month, all home-made.
“La Ruta de la Plata” is about Spain’s emptying countryside, starting with Extremadura: the road the young take to find work, and the villages left behind when summer ends. Catch them live on December 4 at Sala Mutante, Seville.
The poll: which format survives?
We asked which format would keep our music alive if the world ended tomorrow. Mechanical (vinyl, music boxes, player pianos) won with 40%; magnetic came second, digital third, and hybrid, our favorite, came last.
Then we took it all apart: no format survives a year out in the open, they all need a player that breaks too, and it already happened with the Egyptians and the Sumerians: we know they had music, but not how it sounded. The exception is drifting through space on the Voyager Golden Record. The takeaway: music lives as long as someone remembers it, sings it and plays it.
October’s Song of the Month
A battle of almost 800 votes. The winner is “Alicia” by L’lattice, from Aguascalientes, Mexico, with over 400. On Friday, November 27, on Rock n Beer Show #77, they join us at the bar for a live interview.
And we opened La cara B
We closed by presenting November’s poll, “La cara B” (the B-side, what nobody talks about): what hurts an independent band or artist the most today? Paying for promotion, playing to empty rooms, being more influencer than musician, or music not paying the bills. You’ll find it on our radio page as soon as November starts.
