Feral Family fight to keep their heads above water on “Brutalizer”

🇬🇧 English version
Yorkshire post-punk trio Feral Family present «Brutalizer», their new single, out today, October 23.
Jamie Lowe (vocals and lyrics), Oscar Woods and Regan Grimson draw on atmospheric post-punk but think big, on the scale of Fontaines D.C., IDLES, Foals, Shame, Protomartyr and Interpol. And 2026 is shaping up to be their year: Steve Lamacq has played them on BBC 6 Music, John Kennedy on Radio X, they’ve had BBC Introducing support and airplay on Seattle’s legendary KEXP, and their previous single, «The Razor», even rang out at half-time at Leeds United’s Elland Road.
«Brutalizer» is about feeling like you’re drowning. Jamie explains that he’s trying to keep his head above water while life, love and music drag him under: he can see the sun shining above the surface, but he just can’t get there. They turn that feeling into sound: their trademark post-punk, but tighter, heavier and more suffocating.
The song’s central image of someone trying to break into his house isn’t about a fight. It’s a metaphor for the thoughts that won’t let you switch off and that creep into the one place that should be your sanctuary.
In December they hit the road in the UK: December 4 in Leeds (Royal Park Cellars), the 10th in Hull (The Polar Bear), the 11th in Manchester (The Castle Hotel) and the 19th in London (The Social, Soho).
«Brutalizer» is already on our October playlist and in the running for Song of the Month.
